Nail Fungus

Nail fungus, or onychomycosis, is an infection of the nail that commonly presents as a thickened, discolored nail, with debris beneath the plate.

The most important risk factor is the presence of athlete’s foot.

Other predisposing factors are diabetes mellitus, peripheral vascular disease, immunosuppression, obesity, malignancy, trauma, older age, excess sweat production, and occlusive foot wear.
